The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early at Crocker & Starr and saw ideal weather conditions throughout and resulted in another early harvest. 2016 is the last of the 4 years of drought and we were grateful for the post-harvest rainstorm on October 14. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, the Crocker Estate Vineyard was able to progress to perfect ripeness. Of significance, 2016 is the first vintage housed in our new estate winery! Harvest ended early October and though our yields were low, the grapes were perfectly ripe yielding stellar estate wines.

The ‘Casali 9’ Malbec is effortlessly aromatic with notes of purple plum, pink roses, black cherry, and vanilla spice. The dark inky color with a ruby purple rim clings to the glass and promotes a sense of intensity. At first sip, raspberry compote, black plum and cocoa nibs coat the palate. The full mouthfeel, balanced acidity, and layers of sophisticated tannin make this wine perfect to drink now or to cellar for another 10-20 years.
